Altova offers commercial versions of their software that provide extended support including help desk support, online documentation and technical support through phone or email. Altova has a third party services program which offers support on a wide range of XML related technologies. Version 2.0 was released in 2005. Version 3 contained many new features including the addition of an Eclipse plug-in and a Visual Studio plug-in as well as a new user interface for the Schema Editor. New features in version 3.1 include XPath variables, custom toolbars, auto-completion in the schema tab, bookmarking groups in the scripting tab, online "cookbook" help, and much more. Version 4.0 was released in February 2007, with a big overhaul of the visual interface making it easier to navigate and use, as well as many new features including support for editing XML documents interactively, WYSIWYG-style editing tools for code snippets, interactive TreeViews that include an "expand/collapse" tree node, intelligent XML validation with full syntax checking, XSLT extension scripting for XPath data transformations. Version 4.1 was released in December 2007. This version allows developers to create programs or web services based on their own custom XML languages using the scripting API. This is the same scripting API used by OASIS OpenOffice Applications Services 1.
